With the weekend quickly approaching, I'm sure you're like me and trying to come up with last-minute date ideas to do with your special someone or with someone new in your life. Here are a few of my favorite things to do around the windy city:
Feeding the Ducks and Geese
Take a drive out to Mackenzie Park, where you'll find nice picnic areas, restrooms, and the Yellow House River. On warmer days you'll find the water completely covered up with resident ducks and geese that are bold about their desire to eat every bit of food that you bring. Grab some duck feed pellets, grapes, or cracked corn on your way out there and have an afternoon full of laughter and good times!
The Mud Room
Head out here any day but Sunday and spend an hour or two painting a fun piece of pottery with your significant other. See who's the better artist and either make something useful like measuring cups or coffee cups or get more creative and go with something decorative like a flower vase or toothpick jar! It's hard to go wrong when you have an activity like this that allows you to both enjoy long conversations with someone in addition to creating something together that will always remind you of the experience.
Stars & Stripes Drive-In Theatre
Catch a double feature at this retro drive-in! The first movie will typically be something that's just released while the second is going to be something that's still in theaters (but
maybe a little bit older). Not to mention that they have a delicious 50s
style diner and a playground as well for the kids.
J&B Coffee
You'll find J&B Coffee in the heart of the Tech Terrace neighborhood. This is a personal
favorite of mine and perfect for a morning date on the weekend! Stop by and grab some of the most delicious coffee in town. My favorite is the Highlander Grog (which FYI you
can catch that every Wednesday on tap). It's nice and quiet so
you can really have good conversations and sometimes listen to live music if they have
an artist performing.
First Friday Art Trail
The First Friday Art Trail is held on the first Friday of each month. You'll find great artists, musicians, and food vendors all putting on their best for the city. There's plenty to do in the area whether you're going to visit chef Carlos at Platform or throw axes at Bad Axe Raider you're sure to have an evening full of memories.
